Welcome to the Academic Information Website of Agricultural Engineering in Central Luzon State University. The main purpose of the site is to provide relevant information and tools for prospective and current agricultural engineering students of the Central Luzon State University.

THE AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERING PROGRAM @ CLSU

The Department of Agricultural Engineering traces its beginnings with the then Central Luzon Agricultural School (CLAS). It used to offer a secondary Farm Mechanics course.

In June 1955, five years after the school was elevated into the Central Luzon Agricultural College (CLAC), the department was expanded to include the offering of a 4-year degree program in Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering (BSAEn). Four years later, in 1959, this curricular program was revised into a 5-year BSAEn program.

In 1964, CLAC was converted into what is now known as the Central Luzon State University (CLSU). With this development, the College of Engineering was established and through its Department of Agricultural Engineering, the training of human resources vital to the development of the country’s agricultural engineering sector continues.

In 1954, by virtue of Republic Act No. 1174, the Graduate School was created. The graduate program was initially handled by the Graduate and Research Department and then later by the Graduate School. It was in 1979 when it became the Institute of Graduate Studies (IGS).

The IGS is engaged in the provision of advanced instruction and the promotion of research and development work in agriculture and related sciences in its continuing search for truth and upgrading sciences and technology for sustainable development and global competitiveness.

The IGS offers graduate programs in coordination with various concerned colleges and their departments. In the case of the graduate programs in Agricultural Engineering, the IGS is in close partnership with the College of Engineering (CEn), particularly its Department of Agricultural Engineering.

The IGS has, in its set-up, a Department of Agricultural Engineering that oversees the implementation of the graduate course offerings in Agricultural Engineering. It has turned out graduates in the masteral and the doctoral levels since 1982 and 1990, respectively.

Over the years, the graduate programs in Agricultural Engineering have earned recognition. The graduates, including the faculty of the programs, have excelled in the board examination for agricultural engineers; have gained respect and recognition that must have emanated from their key management positions at their place of work and their professional organizations; their capacity to initiate, lead, and implement research, development and extension activities.

In April 2007, a consortium of seven engineering institutions in the country was created to implement the Engineering Research and Development for Technology or ERDT Program. Led by the University of the Philippines in Diliman, the other members of the consortium are Central Luzon State University (CLSU), the Ateneo de Manila University, the De LaSalle University, the Mapua Institute of Technology, the University of San Carlos, and the Mindanao State University.

To date, CLSU is the only member institution of the ERDT Program which has been identified to handle graduate programs in Agricultural Engineering.  Furthermore, a visit last July 11 – 12, 2008 of the representatives of the CHED has officially recognized CLSU as Center of Excellence in Agricultural Engineering, specifically its offering of the BSAEn program.

THE CENTRAL LUZON STATE UNIVERSITY

The Central Luzon State University at Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, Philippines started as a farm school. It was established in 1907 as the Central Luzon Agricultural School(CLAS) with the noble ideal of promoting agriculture and the mechanic arts. Later, the promotion of homemaking arts became another burning commitment.

In 1954, the CLAS was converted into a college known as the Central Luzon Agricultural College(CLAC) with the mission to promote agricultural education. In 1964, it was elevated into a university, the Central Luzon State University to provide professional and technical training in agriculture and mechanic arts, provide advanced instruction, promote research, literature, philosophy, the sciences, technology and the arts.

Over the years, CLSU has been known as an agriculture-oriented institution. Today, it has transformed into a comprehensive university offering various undergraduate and graduate courses. It has been designated as the Zonal University for Luzon as one of the more known institution of higher learning in the Philippines.

CLSU is located on a 658-hectare sprawling main campus in Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, Philippines. It is located 150 kilometers north of Manila. It has more than 1000-hectare site for ranch type buffalo production and forestry development up the hills of Carranglan in northern Nueva Ecija, and is about 40 kilometers away from the main campus.

The University is the lead agency of the Muñoz Science Community and the seat of the Regional Research and Development Center in Central Luzon. To date, CLSU is one of the premiere institutions for agriculture in the Philippines and in South-East Asia known for its breakthrough researches in aquaculture, ruminants, crops, orchard, and water management researches.

Philosophy
